Homemade Bread - A Roundup of 10 Favorite Yeast Breads and Quick Breads

Going gluten-free for the month of July is not going to be easy, breadaholic that I am! So I thought I'd do a roundup of some of my favorite wheat bread recipes I won't be making for at least a month.

If you are on a gluten-free diet, check my Recipes index page (only under Desserts for now) for gluten-free recipes I've developed and look for new ones here in July. If not, then do make one of the wheat breads listed below and let me know how you like it.

I want to hear from you about your favorite breads (gluten-free or wheat), so please leave a comment below.

My super simple 72-Hour Sourdough Bread

Quick and easy Irish Brown Soda Bread

My version of the famous No-Knead Bread

Chelsea Buns (English) and Cinnamon Rolls (American)

Slider Buns (Cute, huh?!)

Pull-Apart Dinner Rolls

Cinnamon Babka

My famous (well, it should be!) Pizza Dough

Hamburger or Hot Dog Buns -- Once you try homemade, you'll never go back!

Buttermilk Biscuits

Whew! This Gluten-Free-July thing is going to be tough if I don't hurry into the Delightful Repast Test Kitchen and come up with some gluten-free alternatives to my favorite wheat breads. Off I go!

Probably seven out of ten we would consider bread, Jean. The other three are pasteries.

They all look delicious though. Have a great day, Tony

Perhaps cakes would be a better term than, pasteries. There are no pasteries in the above lot!!!!

Hi Tony. I know what you mean, but here in the US you will find even dessert-like things, such as the Chelsea buns/cinnamon rolls and the cinnamon babka, under yeast breads (or yeast doughs) and things like scones and tea loaves under quick breads.

Nice list! I book marked it for later. I haven't made bread yet but I found a great book last week to help me get started. I am very interested in the no knead recipe you posted.

Wish I could, Jenn! Thanks so much!

A great round up, Jean. I am a huge fan of homemade breads.

Thanks, Angie. I know you agree with me that bread is fun to make!

What a gallery! You really should think about going pro with your photography skills. I feel like I’ve just guttoned-out – I mean glutened-out – on bread. And cinnamon rolls are one of the exceptions in my bread-free regimen (love ‘em slathered with butter). July is never gonna miss a beat if this is your staple.

Thanks, Sully! I enjoy taking pictures of food (it's about ALL I ever take pictures of!). If you like cinnamon rolls, you'd like my Shiksa Babka, uh, I mean, Cinnamon Babka.

Dang, all these breads look soooo good! I'm a baker at heart. I always have been. Worked in a pizza place back in high school and college where we actually made the dough at the restaurant. Guess that's where I caught the bug cuz I still make my own pizza dough. I'll have to give some of these recipes a try too!

Richard, thanks! Do let me know how they turn out for you. And keep up your good pizza routine!

This post was just an excuse to look at bread pictures, wasn't it? I know you... XOGREG

Oh, Greg, you CAUGHT me! Some people are obsessed with pictures of puppies; I melt over pictures of bread! (And you don't have to clean up after bread!)

Yikes, gluten-free for a whole month? No thanks. I'll keep my gluten-rich diet! Great round-up Jean... I just had a bread-making epiphany recently (yeah... another one! No-knead bread in less than 2 hours... yes indeed! And it all came about because I'm lazy (and I didn't know that no-knead bread normally takes 6-8 hours or MORE?!)... will be sharing the recipe on my site at the end of July (just in time for your gluten-free month to be over!) :D.

Thanks, Charles! Yes, I fear it's going to be a looooooong month! It's nice to have your gluten-ous post to look forward to at the end of it!

Jean, these breads look amazing! And beautiful photography. I've marked at least four that are on my "must make" list. I've struggled with yeast breads in the past- your post inspires me to have another go at bread making!

Jean- lovely, lovely post. I'm marking several of these that I want to make. I've struggled with yeast breads in the past but your post has re-inspired me to give it another go! Thank you!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Melissa, thank you! I hope you'll give them a try soon. And if you run into any difficulty, drop me an email and I'll try to talk you through it!

When I retire I hope to have the time for making breads! I am so glad you shared at open House!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Bernideen, once you get started you're going to be kicking yourself for waiting so long! :D

Fresh bread of any kind is one of my favourite guilty treats. These look great. I'm lucky to own a bread-making machine, and it's really lovely to come home from work to the smell of fresh bread for dinner.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Thanks, Pauline! If I had a bread machine, I'd probably weigh several hundred pounds! :D

Thank you, Marilyn!
