ThermoWorks Giveaway - Four Kitchen Essentials

ThermoWorks Giveaway / www.delightfulrepast.com

Unless you're new to Delightful Repast, you probably know I love really good kitchen equipment. But I also detest snobbery of any kind and am not here to tell you that you can't be a fabulous cook with "lesser" or little equipment.

When it comes to fast, accurate temperature readings in the kitchen, ThermoWorks is "The One." That said, my mother and my grandmothers never owned any kind of kitchen thermometer and did very well in the kitchen, thank you veddy much.

But I've gotten rather used to relying on a thermometer for certain things and would really hate to be without it. For instance, the organic grassfed meat that I like is so very expensive that I really can't risk it with guesswork. Using a thermometer is the only way I can get perfect results every single time.

If you like the idea of simply inserting a probe into the Sunday roast and waiting for the alarm to go off when the desired internal temperature is reached, consider the ChefAlarm (on the left above) with commercial features or the simple and accurate (and less expensive) DOT, both professional grade and built to last.

If you like to take the temperature manually from time to time, go with the Thermapen Mk4 or the simple and accurate (and less expensive) ThermoPop. Like the ChefAlarm and the DOT, the Thermapen Mk4 and the ThermoPop are "splash-proof" (moisture-resistant) and designed for the pros.

Of course, they're not just for meat. Besides coming in handy for roasting, broiling, baking, grilling and frying, they are indispensable when making candy, jam, marmalade, custard, eggnog and all sorts of things.

  1. A lovely array of sensors there, Mlle. Chef. I usually take the temperature by hand (modesty forbids me to describe the various carcass options open) and sing “Fever” while the incineration is taking place. Yes, for meats that go “moo” I like ‘em rare. Have been known to cook with a 60 W lightbulb. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all who frequent this site!

  2. Thanks, Sully! Hope you and yours will have a grand day. Anyone cooking a turkey could sure use one of these thermometers -- rare turkey is not a good thing!

  3. This would certainly help my lack of cooking skills, although I have been eyeballing the electric pressure cookers. Maybe between the thermometers and the pressure cooker I can finally get succulent meat. I may end up turning myself into a vegetarian otherwise! drags59 at yahoo dot com

  4. Cheryl, I don't know about pressure cookers -- they've always scared me -- but I know you will love a thermometer!

  5. Hi! I am not sure how you found me, but am glad you love cats! Welcome, and hope you will follow me! Hug.

  6. Ann, I think it was through your comment on Cranberry Morning, if I recall correctly.

  7. Hi Jean. Hope your Thanksgiving was terrific. Thanks so much for your visit to my blog! I was delighted to see you stopped by. Susan

  8. I need all the help I can in the kitchen. Our turkey was probably done HOURS before I took it out... I couldn't find our thermometer and didn't want to takers chance with underside meat. Well, I had no problem there! Gravy to the rescue!

  9. Anita, I knooooow! :D I was just thinking that millions of people probably ate overcooked turkey today because they didn't have a good thermometer. *Every*one does that because of the dangers of undercooked poultry. Thank goodness for gravy!

  12. Hello Jean,
I always use a thermometer for my turkey and making candy. I could certainly use an updated one but I am Canadian so I'm out of the running. But I'm sure someone will be very happy to win. Great giveaway! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend!

    Autumn blessings,
    Sandi

  13. Sorry, Sandi! Some brands specify US only or a few countries. Once in a while they are open to the entire world. I hope one of your readers will win one of the four prizes!

  14. Wow, perfect timing! I broke my candy thermometer while making walnut fudge pie for Thanksgiving and am feeling a bit lost without a way to gauge the perfect hard-ball stage for my upcoming holiday candy recipe. I would love to have the high-quality thermometers you're offering!

  15. Betsy, it IS hard to gauge the candy stages without a good thermometer. Hope you win one of these!

  16. My husband is the chef in our home, and he definitely relies on thermometers. I'd love to win! ;-)
Thanks for the opportunity. Any one of these would make a great stocking stuffer.

  17. This sure would come in handy. I moved a year and a half ago. And somewhere along I lost mine and a crockpot too. Funny thing I have the lid, but no sign of the thermometer or crock pot. With another move coming in the spring. I sure hope I don't lose my new crockpot. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sarah, good idea! Hmmm ... Maybe if I give such things to my husband, he'll take over some of the cooking!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh, Michelle! It's a good thing I don't move often, I'd be hopeless!

  20. I love using a thermometer in the kitchen - it means I can be absolutely sure everything is just right! Thank you for sharing this great giveaway with us at Hearth and Soul, Jean!

  22. Eileen, I bet a lot of people wish they'd had a nice new thermometer on Thanksgiving! :-) A lot of people overcook their turkeys "just to be on the safe side."

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm a kitchen thermometer fanatic, it makes all the difference in the world!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks so much for stopping by and what a lovely blog you have. I never use a thermometer but probably should. I'll look forward to stopping by again!

I have just read through some of your recipes and hope to try the fried chicken, it's something I've never got right. But then I didn't have an american grandma!

  30. This is one of those kitchen gadgets I've always wanted to own but never made the purchase. Would love to own one! Richard at artstudios dot com
By the way, I made your pot roast recipe last weekend and it was out of this world delicious! I'll have to add it to my standard rotation of tasty dinners. I've been craving more of those golumpkis too!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Aaw! Thank you so much, Richard! My friend and I will be making more cabbage rolls on the 10th (we call it G-day!).

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am thinking about making some Christmas candy. The recipe calls for you to check the mixture with a thermometer.

  37. Is it wrong that I want to win this and give it to my sister-in-law so I don't have to suffer through another prime-rib-turned-into-beef-jerky dinners?
(Backup plan: buy a good thermometer and PRETEND I won it to get around our "no gifts for the adults" rule. Mwahahaha, I think I'm going to let my evil genius side run with this plan)

  38. :D No, Tina, it isn't wrong! And you can tell her that with a thermometer you can achieve well (properly) done "well done" (if that is her aim) that is actually not *over*done (AKA ruined!).

  39. What a great giveaway, Jean!! Thank you for the opportunity to be put in the drawing.
I also looked at your southern boneless fried chicken...a must try!!
Thank you for your kind visit to my blog. It is greatly appreciated.

  40. Thanks, Kitty! And be sure to come back next week -- another giveaway, and one *you* will love!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love that your not a snob with kitchen gadgets! Me too! And, I have to say, a reliable cooking thermometer is one of my top 3 must-haves in my kitchen. I went years and years without one and feel foolish for never getting one. Now, I can't live without it. My husband has a nice one for his outdoor cooking/smoking/grilling that he got as a father's day gift, but the current one that I use for my cooking seems to be not as reliable as it once was, so I was excited to see that this was your giveaway! homecookingmemories @ gmail . com

    ReplyDelete
  42. Brandie, thank you! Good that your husband has his own -- two thermometers, no waiting!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Appreciate the info and giveaway! There are certain kitchen gadgets that are my favorites, like the metal spatula I received at my wedding shower (35 years ago!). Thanks so much!

  46. That is tempting giveaway Jean. I love the all these goodies, excellent for my bread baking ventures.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I do, too, Mary. Otherwise, I tend to overcook something rather than take a chance on it being underdone.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes, Swathi, I love being able to take the temperature of a loaf of bread rather than tapping it to "hear" if it's done!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would love to win a thermometer! What a nice piece of equipment to giveaway for the holiday season! Thanks for the chance. Thanks for joining Home Sweet Home!

  57. Great product! Good luck everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hope to win one for my mom. We always rely on the pop-up thingy on the turkey to "pop-up" to alert us when the turkey is done.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Amma, that's sweet! And if you get one of these, you'll never go back to relying on that pop-up thingy! :-)
