Adagio Teas Review and Giveaway

Adagio Teas Review and Giveaway / www.delightfulrepast.com

Adagio Teas has a wide selection of full leaf loose teas and herbal tisanes. But if you prefer teabags, you'll love their pyramid teabags that contain the same quality full leaf tea and that are roomy enough to give the leaves room to unfurl properly. They have herbal tisanes and decaf teas, iced teas and flavored teas, and green, white, matcha, oolong and pu-erh teas, as well as the black teas I prefer.

The Tea

The Adagio Teas I've tried so far are all black teas and all loose teas (except for the Ceylon Sonata Iced Tea Pouches): Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey Bravo, Earl Grey Moonlight, Darjeeling Sungma Summer and Fujian Baroque. I've not yet tried the Ooooh Darjeeling, which is an oolong.

I'll start with the Ceylon Sonata Iced Tea. Of course, you can steep it hot just as you would for hot tea; but I did it the cold-brew way and loved it. I just dropped 2 pouches into a glass pitcher with 2 quarts of water and refrigerated it for 12 hours. The result was the smoothest, most crystal-clear iced tea I've ever had. I will never make iced tea the hot-brew way again!

Adagio Teas Review and Giveaway / www.delightfulrepast.com
Even when I added the inadequately strained freshly squeezed lemon juice to make Arnold Palmers, the cold-brewed Ceylon Sonata iced tea remained very clear.

The next tea I tried was the Irish Breakfast, a seamless blend of the bright Ceylon Sonata and malty Assam Melody. Irish breakfast teas are sometimes a bit harsh without a good splash of milk, but I found myself drinking this one straight and loving it. Even when I was distracted (usually by the cat or something I was reading) and oversteeped it, it was good.

A teaspoon or other measure of one tea won't be the same weight for all loose leaf teas. Whenever you try a new tea, experiment with the amount of tea to water and the steeping time (3 to 5 minutes for black teas) to get the perfect brew for you.

Don't forget to Pin it!

When I made this pot of Darjeeling Sungma Summer, I used 2 tablespoons (1/8 cup), which was 9 grams, with 28 ounces boiling water. I was happy to find that the infuser works in my new Old Country Roses teapot and was large enough to allow the 1/8-cup scoop of full leaf tea to unfurl properly.

The Infuser Cup

As you might have observed, I have no shortage of teapots, from 17 ounces to 3 quarts (It's a bruiser!). But for those tea-for-one moments throughout the day, you can brew a proper cup/mug of tea in this infuser cup, a lovely porcelain cup and lid with stainless steel infuser (photo below). It comes in white and eight other colors.

The extra-fine stainless steel infuser is quite deep and works well in other mugs too and even some teapots. Of course, you can leave out the infuser when you're using teabags. Whether using the infuser or a teabag, the ceramic lid makes the cup act like a teapot and gives you a better brew.

Update 07/26/17: Giveaway is now closed.

Good morning Jean! I do love your OCR teapot and teacup! That pattern makes such a statement, doesn't it? I like black teas mostly and I would love a red cup. With my family coming home, two of them tea drinkers, I must get some fresh tea in. Thank you for hosting the giveaway and inviting me to enter. Have a beautiful day and summer.

Oh I love Adagio, but it's been a long time since I ordered anything from them. I really like the creativity and quality they put into each blend. That infuser mug is just great - sky blue would be my color. Thanks so much for offering this giveaway! If you like, I'd be happy to have you come share this tonight with Awesome Life Friday. :) https://rchreviews.blogspot.com/

Well that's fun. Thanks for all the info, too, especially about the size of difusers to properly let the leaves expand.
I would choose Sky and any Earl Grey variety.

I am a big tea drinker and can say I've not heard of these teas. As a child my Mom only made tea, hot tea for winter, cold tea for summer... I drink a lot of ice tea. I've been drinking tons of teavana teas. Please enter me in your drawing and of course "pink" would be the perfect color for me.

I have enjoyed their teas...my choice would be the sky blue. Very fun! Thanks for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea

I grew up drinking pure oolong tea and still get loose tea leaves from home every half an year. Can't live without oolong tea.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Thanks, Lynda, I'll do that! That sky blue IS pretty.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Ellen thank you for noticing that! I'm always going about it, but this was the first time I thought to do a graphic of it.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Cathy, you'll love these teas. And pink, it is. Would be handy in Minnie!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Ruth, so far, sky blue is the most popular color. If I could break away from red, I'd probably go for it myself.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Sully, what can I say ... tsk tsk.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Susan, if something comes in red, that's what I usually get!

Angie, I don't often drink oolongs, but when I do, I always enjoy them. I have a package of Adagio Teas Darjeeling oolong I haven't opened yet. Must try it soon!

Probably the plum cup for me but I like the look of the pink (rarely a color I lean to!) also.

Thanks for introducing me to Adagio Teas. They have some delicious sounding blends. I'd choose the plum colour, because it's different and I can imagine wrapping my hands around the mug in the winter. I've been reading about the Puerh teas and will be trying some. Thanks for the great giveaway, Jean.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Thank you, Lorrie. I'm so glad my Canadian tea ladies can get in on this one! :-) I haven't tried the Puerh teas yet, on my tea-do list.

TONY said...

Now the rough and ready way, Jean.
If you want the taste of real tea that ,"puts hairs on your chest," or ,"curls your toenails," here's how you do it. Use loose leaf tea, preferably a good Assam ( you can't beat it) or Darjeeling I suppose is OK. Swill the teapot with boiling water to heat it and then pour the water down the sink. One teaspoon for the pot and then one spoon for each cup you want to brew. I don't think you have to be exact in the measurements, its all about giving it time to brew.Pour boiling water on to the tea and put the lid on. Check how dark your brew is getting from time to time. I don't mind giving it a stir to shift things along. IF you like it strong wait until its black. If you like your tea lighter in flavour, brew it for a shorter time. I know we will argue over this, Jean, but put a little milk into your cup first before pouring the tea. Then, imbibe.
I am sure Jane Austen would have done it that way. (Actually I have no way of knowing. She never mentioned how she poured her tea.) She did get her tea from the nice Mr Twinings in The Strand though.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Thanks, Tony! I do like my tea nice and strong, but I don't want to be growing any hair! If *I* have brewed the tea, I usually pour the milk in the cup first - because I know how strong it is. But if someone else has brewed the tea, I must taste it first before adding milk to see if it's strong enough to take a bit of milk. Only thing worse than weak tea is weak tea with milk in it!

April J Harris said...

All these Adagio teas sound amazing, Jean, but I think I'd like to try Assam Melody first as Assam tea is a real favourite of mine. I love the idea of the infuser cup - what a great way to enjoy loose leaf teas. I'd choose a sky blue one as blue is my favourite colour. Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful teas - and this giveaway with us at Hearth and Soul. Sharing everywhere including the H&S Facebook page! Have a lovely weekend!

April J Harris said...

PS - I forgot to say I'm very interested in your cold brew ice tea method with the Ceylon Sonata Iced Tea sachets! I've never made cold brew ice tea - and I love how clear your ice tea looks!

Ariana, I don't usually drink flavored teas, but I'd probably like mango (or guava) iced tea.

Thanks, Barbara, I hope you'll find lots of posts you like!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Thank you, dear Stephanie. Good to hear from you! I am well enough, but I never enjoy summer. :D I don't take heat and humidity well at all, so I am just not a summer girl! But I try to keep a good attitude about it! :D

Lauren @ My Wonderfully Made said...

I have not tried Adagio teas but the ones you highlighted look wonderful. I often will brew a pot in the morning and by afternoon I'm drinking it iced so I like ones that are good both ways. I'm a big fan of the white tea blends but also love the florals like lavender. But then again, I do love Rooibos. And the green tea blends. And Red Clover tea. LOL - I love them all but the black teas are probably my least favorite. I agree on the little infusers. I have the basket infusers that I put in the pot or the single serve flip-top 'pots' that I use as well. I'd love that red infuser!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Lauren, Adagio has lots of different green tea blends, and I'm going to try a few of them. I should order a Rooibos, too, as I've wanted to try that ever since I watched The Number One Ladies Detective Agency, in which they were constantly drinking Rooibos.

Hello Jean,
What a wonderful post! I found you today through Mimi's blog and the Pit Stop link party. Nice to meet you as I'm not sure if I've been by before today. It would be lovely to win the Adagio mug and tea giveaway! Thank you for the entry.

Recently I wrote a post about brewing tea and it was a hit. I drink tea every day so to me it's just normal; I forget that most folks seem to drink coffee these days! Glad that tea is making a revival again. Pinned a bunch of photos out to my boards on Pinterest for you and I'll find you on your other feeds. Nice to have found another tea aficionada!

Blessings to you,
Barb :)
Oh, my emails are: bschapman1@netscape.net and french.ethereal@gmail.com, thank you.

I love tea! What a great review; I will definitely check out Adagio teas.

When I lived in Minneapolis, I bought a lot of tea at TeaSource there. My favorite everyday tea was something they called strong Assam but I tried many kinds of Ceylon, oolong, and green tea too.

I would probably choose a plum cup, although it's hard not to be tempted by the orange and grasshopper ones. So cheerful!

Thanks for this review, and for the giveaway!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

I really love the post and the info so thanks for that -- but don't enter me in the drawing -- I was so lucky to win the tea andteapot in your earlier post -- someone else whould have the chance.

And excuse me if there are typos. A big black bar goes over as I'm typing and I have no idea if it's even close!

What a great mug; really like the cover to keep my tea hot. Plum would be my choice, good for fall and winter mornings , filled with Irish Breakfast tea!

Quinn said...

Wow, I just visited the Adagio website and already have a wishlist of teas to order! I love it that they give a price/cup for each tea, and offer sample sizes that are affordable but will make enough cups to really let a person discover if that tea is "the one."
I don't plan it this way, but I drink different teas at different times of year. And mostly herbal teas these days. Honeybush is one of my all-time favorites, because it really has a lovely aftertaste of honey and if I can't taste it, it tells me I've let too much sugar creep into my diet! Also, honeybush tea can steep for a really long time, or even be warmed up again(!) without altering the taste. For someone who often forgets and walks past the cup of tea sitting on the table, this is a huge plus.
If I was a lucky winner, my choice for color would be orange, because it would catch my eye. (See above!)
And thanks for making me realize I am way overdue for having a giveaway on my blog. Like you, it always makes me happy. I'm now deciding between yarn/art :)

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Thanks, Quinn. I forgot to mention that in my post - that the affordable sample sizes make enough cups to let a person discover if that tea is "the one." Enough tea to make just a cup or two is not an adequate sample. Love your reason for choosing orange!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Denise, you will love the Adagio Irish Breakfast! And looking at the headshot next to your comment, I think the Plum will suit you well!

Great website find! My fave everyday tea is a strong black tea, Yorkshire Gold. Also love Buckingham Palace Blend which is a black tea with other things mixed in. Red mug would be my fave.

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

David, that IS shocking! My husband never had tea or coffee until I turned him into an occasional tea drinker, but he still has never had a single drop of coffee and he's not a hot cocoa fan either. My idea of making a cup of tea is chucking a Yorkshire tea bag in a mug lol. Interesting to see some of the options available though
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes :)

Thank you, Debbie. I love a nice mug of Yorkshire tea, too! Another thing I like about loose leaf tea is that it's easier to compost. I don't have an actual composting set up; I just bury stuff in the garden, and so I can just throw the loose tea leaves there without having to remove them from a teabag.
